General Discussion / Re: Knee and elbow pads?
« on: November 26, 2012, 07:06 pm »
My recommendation: buy online. Most local bike shops will carry one style of pads at most. There are a lot of options for size and now is a good time to get something on clearance at jensonusa or pricepoint.

Quarry Ridge (CORP Trail) / Re: directing traffic

Relocated the do not enter sign, added caution tape, added brush to the old corridor, and extracted the wooden bridge that people were dropping. If someone rides past this without pause, they are just a jerk.

Technically, what people are doing is riding it as a drop. Not the original intent, but probably the cause of people riding down it. We have a more thorough reroute identified for that area and will be pulling the bridge out this week to be used in another spot.

The brush that was there has been moved by rogues. I'll add more.

Overall we need more, and bigger, signage out there for some of the trail direction and trail difficulty. Currently working on updating the list I put together and getting it into a budget proposal for the city.

The ambulance trail is still a one way trail, the old corridor is just there because nothing is growing there and it's on the fall line. There is a do not enter sign at the top, but I will check the location to ensure it is visible to riders.

The manager of Machinery Row gave me a message they're having another demo day June 20. He said he had difficulties registering for the forum and it won't let me post the flyer he sent so here's the info from Giant.

Any idea what the trouble was he had when registering? Can you send me his email so I can contact him to find out what the problem was and help get him signed up?

Thanks everyone who came out over the weekend. We finished benching in the new entrance trail, fixed a bunch of drainage/erosion issues on the XC loop including a cool rock berm, built up a landing and berm on the intermediate 3 sisters line, and polished the flow in and out of the wooden feature on the Tunnel trail.

There is still some work to do on the xc loop and tunnel trail, so keep your eyes peeled here for some ad hoc workdays later this month (after QR get a few consistently wet days).

Quarry Ridge (CORP Trail) / National Trail Day at Quarry Ridge
« on: May 31, 2012, 08:40 pm »
Come out at 9 am this Saturday to participate in the final official trailday of the yer at Quarry Ridge, coinciding with National Trail Day.

We will be finishing the entrance trail, polishing the XC loop, and building up the berms and transitions on the DH lines.

If the weather cooperates we will grill out and have a cold one around 1 pm, followed by a ride. If its raining we will head down the street to Buffalo Wild Wings.

Come on out and help get QR in tip top shape for riding season!

Quarry Ridge (CORP Trail) / priorities for 6/2 trail day
« on: May 28, 2012, 08:00 pm »
In the interest of building what is needed AND what is wanted, I'm soliciting input on priorities for the upcoming workday. So far, here are the things on my radar:

- Finish benchcutting the entrance loop
- Fix the water-damaged sections of XC loop (berms, etc)
- Build up the landings on the 3 sisters jump lines
- Fine-tuning of the lead-in and exit of the wooden berm on the Tunnel trail
- Ambulance climb reroute
- Anything else?

Who's coming out this weekend, and what do you want to work on the most?

Quarry Ridge (CORP Trail) / Re: QR new climb cut in....and beer
« on: May 21, 2012, 10:36 pm »
We had some productive trail flagging, corridor clearing, and beer drinking tonight. Thanks to Scot, Bin, and Richard for coming out to help out (especially Scot who brought a nice craft beer selection).

We brought the clinometer out and really re-assesed the entire thing. We've got a new corridor going up the side of the ridge and winding through a nice bowl / Aspen grove near the top that is choc-full of invasive species. It took a lot of cutting to walk the corridor and measure the climb, but the result is a steady 10% grade with some steeper and flatter sections the entire way up.

This is going to require a lot more invasive species removal and bench-cutting but I think everyone will be satisfied with the end result.

Website Feedback / Blog Posts
« on: May 21, 2012, 09:47 pm »
Has someone been deleting old blog posts for workdays, etc? I'm confused because I know we have had a number of posts on the main page this spring, but none of the workday-related posts show in the history.

Kind of doesn't help with search engine optimization and makes the site appear to have fewer updates, not sure if this is intentional or a bug I need to research...

Trailbuilding and Advocacy / Trailbuilding Resources
« on: May 21, 2012, 11:36 am »
Thought I'd compile several helpful trailbuilding links. I've referenced the IMBA site in the past but they keep the themes pretty high-level in hopes of selling the trailbuilding textbook. Anyway, here are the best things I've been able to find:

Does anyone else have any good trailbuilding resources to link to? Either design techniques (how to lay out the trail) or construction techniques (ex. how to bench cut)?

Also, as the season progresses, we will be doing more evening work sessions. I will post new threads on the board when that is happening. If you subscribe to the QR board you will get an email when a new thread comes up.
