Quarry Ridge (CORP Trail) / National Trail Day at Quarry Ridge
« on: May 31, 2012, 08:40 pm »
Come out at 9 am this Saturday to participate in the final official trailday of the yer at Quarry Ridge, coinciding with National Trail Day.

We will be finishing the entrance trail, polishing the XC loop, and building up the berms and transitions on the DH lines.

If the weather cooperates we will grill out and have a cold one around 1 pm, followed by a ride. If its raining we will head down the street to Buffalo Wild Wings.

Come on out and help get QR in tip top shape for riding season!

Quarry Ridge (CORP Trail) / priorities for 6/2 trail day
« on: May 28, 2012, 08:00 pm »
In the interest of building what is needed AND what is wanted, I'm soliciting input on priorities for the upcoming workday. So far, here are the things on my radar:

- Finish benchcutting the entrance loop
- Fix the water-damaged sections of XC loop (berms, etc)
- Build up the landings on the 3 sisters jump lines
- Fine-tuning of the lead-in and exit of the wooden berm on the Tunnel trail
- Ambulance climb reroute
- Anything else?

Who's coming out this weekend, and what do you want to work on the most?

Website Feedback / Blog Posts
« on: May 21, 2012, 09:47 pm »
Has someone been deleting old blog posts for workdays, etc? I'm confused because I know we have had a number of posts on the main page this spring, but none of the workday-related posts show in the history.

Kind of doesn't help with search engine optimization and makes the site appear to have fewer updates, not sure if this is intentional or a bug I need to research...

Trailbuilding and Advocacy / Trailbuilding Resources
« on: May 21, 2012, 11:36 am »
Thought I'd compile several helpful trailbuilding links. I've referenced the IMBA site in the past but they keep the themes pretty high-level in hopes of selling the trailbuilding textbook. Anyway, here are the best things I've been able to find:

Does anyone else have any good trailbuilding resources to link to? Either design techniques (how to lay out the trail) or construction techniques (ex. how to bench cut)?

It's been 2 seasons since I've put any time into the old XC rig, spending all my time and parts on my flock of 'geese (Mongoose Khyber and Nugget). I figured I'd put it out there to see if anyone is interested.

2006 Trek Fuel EX7, 17.5" frame
This is a 26" full suspension XC rig. Both front and rear shocks have adjustable lockout. Complete specs here: http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/2006/archive/fuelex7

Current state: I rode the bike for 3 seasons in the region before I moved on to an all mountain rig. I opened up the suspension at Blue Mound and typically dialed it down halfway at CamRock or Quarry Ridge. The frame and original suspension have some cosmetic wear but are in fine working order. Mostly original parts with some minor upgrades/replacements to derailleurs / wheels / pedals.

Overall this is close to ready as-is, but needs the following work:
- Drivetrain: Needs a new chain. crankand rear cassette are in working condition, but it would be best to replace them along with the chain.
- Tires are worn
- Brake lines need to have fluid replaced

This would be a good pickup for someone looking to get a used XC setup going without having to buy new or build something from scratch. Message me if you are interested in talking price and I can also send you a more detailed parts inventory.

Quarry Ridge (CORP Trail) / Trail Names
« on: April 09, 2012, 12:25 am »
Quarry Ridge is in need of more signage and an updated map. In preparation for those developments, I'm looking for suggestions on trail names...

The 3 Sisters Trail has developed into 2 distinct lines with different features. The big sister drop was replaced by 2 senders. I was thinking we could continue to call the original trail with wooden drops the 3 Sisters and pick a new name for the expert trail.
- Step Sisters
- Holaday Downhill (in honor of the guy who made it happen and rides it the hardest)
- ??

The new entrance trail that parallels the hill above the swamp and then crosses the field needs a name.
- The Swamp
- ??

The Ambulance Trail up the ridge has been replaced by a winding climb and officially no longer resembles a "fire trail". We could stick with the old name or call it something new.
- Ambulance Trail
- Winding Ridge
- ??

Finally, the XC/singletrack/main loop. I know those terms are descriptive, but there's gotta be a cooler name out there.
- The Track
- ??

Let me know what you think!

Come on out to Quarry Ridge's first workday year this Saturday from 9 am - 1 pm and help make it an even better place to ride ANY type of mountain bike. As usual, we have projects for everyone:

Singletrack loop - we will be adding a 1/4 mile extension to the existing loop that will start near the flooded parking lot.  We'll also work on building the switchbacks up the Ambulance trail as an alternate route up the hill. A couple other spots with drainage issues and ruts also need the love of a rogue hoe. This is more than 1 day worth of work, so exactly which of these projects we tackle and/or finish on 4/7 will depend on the turnout.

Technical trail features - we will be rebuilding the big sister drop (so it is more of a jump) and also putting a new wooden skinny on the singletrack loop. There are also a couple berms in need of some love so come on out!

If you've never been to a work day before, don't worry! There is stuff for everyone to work on, and some of the more experience folks are always willing to help catch the new people up to speed. Just bring a good pair of work boots/old sneakers, gloves (leather work gloves are best), jeans (or other work pants), and layers that can accommodate the morning chill and afternoon sun. If you don't have all of this stuff, just try to bring some gloves.

After work wraps up (about 1 pm) we will head across the street to Buffalo Wild Wings for some wings and refreshments. If the weather is good we may be able to head back to QR to ride what we built.

See you on Saturday!

Quarry Ridge (CORP Trail) / Picture of the Big Sister Drop
« on: February 19, 2012, 05:42 pm »
Took this picture in 2010 after we built a new landing and berm for the Big Sister drop at Quarry Ridge. In 2012 we need to shore up the woodwork as it is starting to get a little wobbly.
