Searching for New Pleasant View Volunteers

Pleasant View Trail Steward

Hi All. The Pleasant View trail stewards would like to get a more sizeable and stable volunteer base helping out with routine trail maintenance. We have been getting decent turn out at work days (thanks to those that attend!), but the truth is keeping the trails in top shape requires a good bit more work than that. There is almost always something that needs addressing. Toward that end, we would like to get a core group of volunteers who are willing to put in some time individually. As the adage goes, many hands make for light work, and honestly if we had a handful of people who were willing to put in even 1-2 hours per month we would be in good shape. The idea is that we would get you up to speed on the basics of what types of work need to be done and how best to accomplish them, and then you can feel free to contribute as your schedule permits. Here is how we propose to accomplish this:

  • We will have brief orientation sessions at 5:30 pm by the trailhead toolbox on 6/29 and 7/13. Please come and meet the stewards and learn about volunteering at Pleasant View. This will be pretty straight forward (about 30 minutes), and cover how to access tools, types of routine maintenance needing volunteer work, etc. We will then join the group ride for some fun at 6:00 pm. All speeds of riders welcome, as always.
  • For those who are interested in volunteering but cannot make either of those sessions, either William or I will make time to meet with you individually at the trailhead at your convenience.
  • Once you have competed the informal orientation, you should feel free to go out and address any routine maintenance (weed trimming / sightline maintenance; deberming, etc) as your schedule permits. Just let us know what you did and where. If you have thoughts for other, non-routine improvements (i.e. dirt work), we are certainly open to that, but please check in with us before proceeding.

Again, we are not asking you to put in multiple hours per week (unless you are so inclined). An hour or two once a month would be plenty. This is what makes good singletrack in our area possible. Please feel free to email Randy (randy.williams@madcitydirt.com) or William (william.lorman@madcitydirt.com) if you have any questions. We will hope to see you out there!
