Many of you know this, and if that's the case, carry on. But some may need a reminder, and a few may not have heard.  When the temperatures are near freezing, and trail conditions are listed as Freeze/Thaw, trail conditions can change quickly and dramatically over the course of a day.  When the ground is frozen, the riding is generally excellent, but as soon as it starts to thaw, it becomes a slippery mess, and the trail is very susceptible to damage (short reason; the water in the soil expands when it freezes, and when it melts, the resulting mud is particularly soupy and unstable; longer explanation here, among other places).  On south facing slopes, thawing can happen well below freezing, especially with no snow cover.  Night riding is great fun and the trails will often be in great shape, and early mornings can be good before the sun gets too high. Beautiful sunny afternoons are the worst time to ride; it's not that much fun, and it's really hard on the trails.  I know we sound like a broken record on this, and most riders are good about it, but the word needs to get spread further. All of us volunteers would rather build new trail than repair old trail, especially when the damage is so easily avoided.  Thanks!

There's been seasons when I've ridden my fatbike in February just as much as my trail bike in August. Having studded tires to handle ice or imperfect conditions, and the willingness to ride in the early mornings and at night when the trails are frozen will be big factors.   

Hey Denny-  You may want to have your own conversation with the one wheelers who are acting like complete d**ks on the trails by clogging trails, clogging parking lots so people can't pull in or out, loudly screaming profanity at each other across parking lots.  Instead of coming in here and pre-emptively accusing people of "cancelling" you, perhaps you all should be courteous trail users and there wouldn't be complaints. None of the volunteers want to enforce trail rules, but we also don't want to be out in the woods with a bunch of guys screaming at the tops of their lungs at each other and who don't even attempt to share the trail with bikers. Sorry to be so blunt, but my last on-trail experience with one wheelers at Seminole was trash.

I am fat bike curious. How many times a winter are you guys riding groomed singletrack?(I am only interested in riding single track)

What are your thoughts on renting fat bike vs purchasing?

Applications are now open for CORP's 2024 High School Internship Program!

In 2023, five outstanding interns from local NICA teams joined forces with CORP to organize and run our Movie Night Event in September.

The interns learned about planning, communication, marketing, working with local municipalities as well as understanding how a non-profit works. Volunteer hours and experience can be used towards NHS, NICA Teen Trail Corp, College Applications as well as for just feeling good about helping to build more needed trails in our area.
