    Lower Wisconsin River Master Plan

    April 01, 2016, 03:37 PM

The Lower Wisconsin Riverway is undergoing their Master Plan Process. See documents at http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/lands/masterplanning/lowerwisconsin/

At this point they have no bike access in any of the park land or trails. Although much of the Lower Wisconsin is flood plain or steep bluffs there are a few places that bikes could fit in. In northern Dane County the Blackhawk unit that was once a private xcski, horse and bike resort that is now owned by the DNR has around 9 miles of double track trails currently used by hikers and a few horses.  This unit could possibly support multi use bike trails for beginners as is on the double track or with permission in the master plan and building new single track trails this unit could provide a great new riding opportunity to the area.  This parcel could also support Winter fat biking as the 9 miles of trails are used frequently as snowshoe trails in the winter.

Please look over the plan and comment to let them know that they should consider bikes in the properties that could support trails. Particularly Blackhawk unit.

    Deadline is April 8, 2016

Fyi: The previous owners family of the Blackhawk unit have said that they wished that Mountain bikes were allowed on the unit but when they were doing the previous master planning bikers didn't show up or comment so they became horse trails. Don't let that happen again!
