The Inukshuk fat bike races at Pleasant View

    November 16, 2015, 10:16 AM

Now that ‘cross season is almost over, its time to fat-plan….The Inukshuk fat bike race at Pleasant View is back this winter with some nice changes.

    Quick takeaways:
    • Not one, but two event dates (1/16 and 2/6)
    • Partnership with the Snowshoe Scurry snowshoe races. Snowshoes race the course first, followed by the fat bike race.
    • Different format with a shorter course. Do as many 5K loops as you can do in 90 minutes. Only laps completed within the 90 minutes will count.
    • Studded tires ok
Pre-reg is open at snowshoewi.com NOW.

    Some other bits:
There is going to be a Madison area fat-bike race series this year, which combines The Inukshuks and the Winterfest fat bike crit, plus another soon-to-be-announced event at a great venue in Iowa County. This series, for this year, allows us to gather some series sponsorship, and lays the groundwork to create some series-level prizes and incentives next year.

If you raced last year, you surely remember the deep soft snow. This year, we should be more weather-proofed by adding the snowshoe races. Snowshoes go out at 9:00 in 5K and 10K distances and burn in some lines. Fat-bikes follow at 11:00 on a (hopefully) well-tracked path. Last year’s long route was intended to fit a template of the inaugural USAC fat bike nationals event in Utah. Incidentally, some of you are aware that in conjunction with the Madison Area Sports Commission, we submitted a very detailed bid to USAC to hold fat bike nats at Pleasant View for 2017-18. Unfortunately, we came in a close 2nd.

Like last year, The Inukshuk events will be making a cash contribution to C.O.R.P. of $3/racer. Last year, The Inukshuk donated $200 to C.O.R.P. With two events this year, its likely to double or more. So come race to support C.O.R.P!

There will be more details to come at both The Inukshuk FB page: https://www.facebook.com/The-Inukshuk-441810662671654/ and snowshoewi.com
