Awesome
It doesn't get much better for winter riding. The entire loop around the mound (Gneiss / Holy Schist) is amazing. Over Lode is also packed and rideable but not quite as smooth. Enjoy when frozen.

As a general rule, when the local temperature reaches 30F (or less in direct sun), the trail surface will begin to turn soft and you'll start leaving an imprint. When the trail surface re-freezes, these imprints become hard ruts and potholes which can make the trail less enjoyable and even unrideable. Don't damage the trails by rutting the thawed surface with your tires or footwear. Poor on-site conditions will always override the trail conditions posted here. Always use good judgment when deciding when and where to ride.

Help by keeping the trails clear, and reporting obstacles and other issues. Check the BMSP DNR website or call the park for information on bathrooms, water access, and camping. Please carry out anything you carry in, observe safe distancing, and keep group numbers to the minimum possible. It should go without saying that pets are expected to stay on-leash, and their waste leaves with their owner. Thanks!

Fresh/Loose Snow
A few inches of new, wet snow on top of a solid base. Likely mashed potatoes until it sets up, which won't happen until Sunday at the earliest.

All of the trails are in good to amazing shape. Even Overload has been tracked in. We have a slight warm up on Wednesday and Thursday please follow the winter use guidelines. Ride/Hike/Snowshoe only when it is frozen. If you are leaving imprints come back when it is frozen. Just one set of tire tracks or footprints can ruin the fun for everyone that follows. If we can get through Thursday without damage it looks like we may have another week or more of awesome conditions

As a general rule, when the local temperature reaches 30F (less in direct sun), the trails will turn soft and you'll start leaving an imprint. When frozen, these imprints create "postholes" which can make the trail less enjoyable and even unrideable. Don't damage the trails by rutting the thawed surface with your tires or footwear. Poor on-site conditions will always override the trail conditions posted here. Always use good judgment when deciding when and where to ride.

Gneiss is in great shape bordering on awesome. Holy Schist is in good shape and with more tires on the trail will also be awesome. Make time to get out to Blue Mound it has some of the best riding that you will find. The weather forecast also looks great in the upcoming days. Take time off from work, go at night, whatever it takes so that you can take advantage of the hard work that all the volunteers have put in to the trail.

Gneiss and Holy Schist have been fully groomed and should remain in great condition. The hoar frost is amazing and continually falling on the trail, so don't be surprised if you get some fresh tracks in!

Another pass with the groomer was made on Gneiss and the entire trail system is getting various amounts of snowshoe traffic. The snow is still trying to set up, it's fairly dry. Expect conditions to improve after the snow has set up more and been ridden in.

6" of new snow has been groomed on most of Gneiss and Holy Schist. The bailout at Holy Schist, and Home Stretch, have not been groomed. Snowshoeing is encouraged to complete the loops until we make another pass. Expect conditions to improve after the snow has set up and been ridden in some.
