Some more detailed conditions for CamRock:
We got a little less than half of the trails groomed Saturday before we had a mechanical issue. Groomed areas: All of Creekside (White River, Beaver Hole, Fat Tracks), Connector going south to the Roundabout (Dave's Deer Path, Raspberry Fields Forever, Rip 'N Ride), and the lower sections from the Roundabout into Rockdale (Mayor's Meander, Beer Cave). These trails are awesome. The groomer smoothed out any pock marks from hikers, and the 1" of fresh over the top gives lots of grip. Fun!
But really all the trails are in great shape. It's just that the groomed sections are better. We were talking yesterday we would love these conditions if we did not know how nice the groomed sections were. Spoiled already.
Just to know: The first short section out of Cambridge (White River), is rutted. It was ridden right after grooming Saturday, then of course it froze. The snow over the top helps a lot. It will get better quickly as that area gets a lot of foot and snowshoe traffic. There is also a tree down at the bottom of Turn It Up. Very visible.
All the rest of the groomed trail is pretty awesome! Flat, hard, and fast with just enough snow over the top to make it even better. The non-groomed trail is hard frozen snow with powder over the top for grip and cushion. There are a few areas with some pock marks from hikers, but even there the fresh snow makes it pretty darn nice.
A little drifting in the upper prairie on Wouldchuck, but most of it is rideable now. We walked maybe 100' of trail, but blasted through most of it. Fun!
Best snow conditions in over a year. Get out and enjoy it! Another bonus is when we have typical winter north or northwest winds, 95% of the trail is protected as it is on the leeward side of the hill. Just a couple of layers yesterday and we were plenty warm. It was a beautiful sunny day. A great day to be out on the trail!
